A Message From The
Missouri Charolais Breeders
Association President:
March 8, 2007
WOW!!!!!!
The M.C.B.A. got off to a rousing start for 2007, this past weekend.
What a great banquet, annual meeting, followed up with the presentation
of an excellent offering of cattle on Saturday. The Saturday sale
stirred up a lot of interest resulting in the best sale in years.
The banquet really got things going. We had a crowd of one hundred
people who dined on prime rib and roast pheasant along with the
appropriate side dishes. The meal was outstanding. Our compliments go
out to Chef Leslie Jett, and the organizers of the banquet.
The meal was followed by our annual meeting, which was conducted by
President Bill Nottke. The meeting moved briskly and ended with the new
slate of officers being presented by the nominating committee. The slate
of officers was approved by the membership as presented by the
committee.
The Junior Fundraiser Auction was quite a success. The juniors put
together a varied selection of items to be auctioned. All enjoyed the
auction, along with a lot of joviality. The juniors are to be
congratulated for their participation and presentation of items that
were sold.
The sale on Saturday drew buyers from five states. Bidding was brisk
along with some humor being interjected regarding bidders from the
various states. The bulls averaged just under $2,600 dollars a head.
Bred cows, cow calf pairs and bred heifers averaged $2,025 per lot. Open
heifers averaged $2400 per lot. The sale average was $2350 per lot. Sale
Manager, Greg Hubert, Auctioneer, Jesse Bolin, and the consigners are to
be congratulated for making the sale such a success. The sale drew a
large crowd with the results putting a lot of smiles on the faces of the
consigners.
The Missouri (M.C.B.A.) directory will be in the June/July issue of the
Charolais Journal. This will be the 50th anniversary and a Special
Edition Journal issue. I would encourage everyone to review their
advertising needs. Contact David Hobbs at the office to discuss your ad
needs. The directory will reach all A.I.C.A. members. An additional 1500
copies of the directory will be printed for distribution at various
livestock events throughout the year.
I would ask that every M.B.C.A. member think about what they can do to
increase our membership. We are the second state in the country in terms
of the number of active Charolais breeders. The potential is there. Just
a phone call or a personal visit might help.
We are off to a great start this year, let’s continue to build on that.
Our sincere thanks goes out to Bill Notke for providing the leadership
to get this going and all the other members who worked to make the MCBA
State Sale such a great success.
Sincerely,
Bob Barnard
